Tell us a bit about yourself and the experience you will bring to Student Government.

Well my name is Ryan Scott, I am currently 21 years old and I am in my first year of the Child and Youth Worker program. I am also a graduate of the General Arts and Science Program also at Loyalist College. In High School I was on several committees such as the student government, student athlete committee and I was the representative for my school with an organization called Fesfo, which is an association of franco-ontariens in high schools, a grouping of all French high schools in Ontario. I traveled quite a bit with that organization from Northern Ontario, to Ottawa, to Toronto. I am a reliable person who gives his all to whatever project I am involved in.

Why I ran for this position?

I am running for the Human Studies Leader position because I have been in college now 3 years and I have not been involved in my school. I often complain there is not much going on so this is my way of being able to give back to my school and have a say in what goes on.

What do you believe is the biggest issue the Student Government will need to address this year?

I think student involvement is an issue at the school and should be addressed. From an outside perspective, I believe a lot of the activities are geared towards Residence Students. When activities are going on at the school often times it is difficult to find a way to the school to participate. I believe transportation to and from school should be addressed in the event that there are activities for the general school public.

What new event or initiative would you like to see happen this year?

If I had an opportunity to improve just one thing at Loyalist College I would have to say it would be the parking lot in the winter. I’m not sure how many times I got to school and there were 3 cars parked in a row with the middle person blocked in. It was and is horrible. There should be things in place to stop this from happening.

How would you address the following question if asked by a Loyalist student during the campaign.

“Why is it important to vote in student elections?”

It is important to vote in student elections because it is your college, just like provincial and federal elections you are voting for the people who are going to be making decisions which will impact your time at Loyalist College and although college is a time to further our education it is important to have fun because in all likelihood this will be your last chance to have fun before the real world begins, and for some of you it already has.
