Reading & Writing Tools Workshop
Loyalist Student Government was proud to assist the Student Success Hub in bringing motivational speaker, Ph.D. student and researcher Todd Cunningham from the Ontario Institute of Studies in Education, University of Toronto and the Hospital for Sick Children to Loyalist College on Wednesday, November 21, 2007.
Todd’s presentation was in association with the Student Success Hub’s Reading and Writing Tools Workshop. The topic of his presentation was “Assistive Technology Beats Back Disabilities.”
In his presentation, Todd discussed:
- Strategies for students with learning disabilities
- Potential of assistive technology
- How he has struggled with dyslexia and has learned to handle it with the use of assistive technology
- His life experiences from birth through high school to university.
- How assistive technology (text-to-speech, graphic organizers, word prediction, voice recognition) and learning strategies can help individuals with learning disabilities succeed
