Do you have to be a Loyalist student?

33% of each act must be full time Loyalist Students – no exceptions.

What types of acts can perform on Open Mic Night?

Any type of act, whether it is a band, comedian, dancer, etc. can perform on Open Mic Night so long as the act demonstrates to the Audition Committee excellent stage presence, musical ability, originality and rapport with audience during their audition.

How long do I have to sign up?

Open Mic Night sign up closes on Monday, October 19 at 12 noon.

Is equipment provided?

Musical equipment such as guitars, drum kit, etc. are not provided, as they are the responsibility of each performer for both audition and performance nights. However, a PA System is provided which includes microphones, speakers and a monitor system along with an engineer who will operate the equipment during auditions and performances.

When are auditions held?

Auditions will be held on Tuesday, November 3 and Wednesday, November 4 from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the Shark Tank Pub.

When will I be contacted about an audition time?

The Student Government Office Manager Nancy File will contact you the week of October 19 to provide you with an audition time. Please arrive at least 15 minutes before your audition time to set up.

How many songs should I be prepared to perform for the audition and Open Mic Night:

  • Audition – Be prepared to perform two songs.
  • Open Mic Night – There is a limit of four songs or 20 minutes per performer, both acoustic/electric, as there is a limited number of performer times.

Do I have to audition again if I performed in the Open Mic Night last year?

All participants will be auditioned.

What if some of my band members can only make it for performance night and not the audition?

It is in the best interest of each act to ensure all members are present to demonstrate the act’s talent to the Audition Committee. However, it is understandable to the committee that some members are not students and can only make one or the other. It is recommended to compensate for missing members.

How will the decisions be made on who performs on Open Mic Night?

On audition nights, the Audition Committee will mark each participant to determine successful performers. The marking scheme they will use is on a scale of 1 to 5, 1 being Poor, 5 being Excellent for the following areas:

  • Stage Presence
  • Musical Ability
  • Originality
  • Rapport with Audience

When will I know if I’m performing on Open Mic Night?

A performer list and times will be posted on www.loyaliststudents.com as well as the door of the Student Government Office on Friday, November 6.

What time does the Open Mic Night start?

Doors open at 8 p.m. The first performance will start at 8:15 p.m.

How early do I need to arrive before my scheduled performance time on Open Mic Night?

Be prepared to arrive at least 30 minutes prior to your performance time. This gives you time to check-in and set up.

Do you pay performers?

Unfortunately, no payment is offered for Open Mic Night performances. The Student Government runs a free Open Mic Night for the purpose of giving Loyalist students a space to share their talent.

Is the Open Mic Night open to the public?

No, this event is for Loyalist College students and their guests only and will be closed to the general public. Only one guest per full time Loyalist student. Guest must be a minimum of 17, accompanied by the full time Loyalist student and signed in the guest book. The student will be held accountable for the actions of their guest.
