Jacob 'Jak' Knight
Health Sciences Leader
Practical Nursing, Second Year
Student Government Office (located in the Student Centre)
In high school, I went through 2 leadership programs, I taught karate, and I was also in a crisis situation where I had to help save a man's life. Why do I want to lead you ask? It is because I feel it is what I need to do, since I would like the chance to bring my skills to the table. I am a great team player, but I am also good at leading. I have chosen to run to sharpen these skills further, so that in the future I may go on to lead and help many others.
Tell us a bit about yourself and the experience you will bring to Student Government.
My name is Jak, I have been a student at Loyalist for a year now. Last year, I was a volunteer for Walksafe, as well as a student vice rep for the first year practical nurses. I had the opportunity of planning an event independently of which 30+ people attended. I am an abstract, yet also logical thinker, so if I join I will bring both these qualities to the table.
What do you believe is the biggest issue the Student Government will need to address this year?
I do not really think you can measure issues simply in matter of size. The issue though that I would like student council to address this year would be how to help make the students of the SOAR office more successful, since many of them were not last semester. I happen to be a SOAR office student, and so I have a concern for these students, and so I would like to see if there is a way to improve their success.
If you had an opportunity to improve just one thing at Loyalist, what would it be?
I would like to see more vegetarian options offered at the College when major events occur. Me being a vegetarian, this has always somewhat annoyed me as when they have pizza-related events, it's almost always pepperoni only, and when there are burgers, they're usually only meat. I happen to know that our Media Studies Leader, Matt, would agree with me, as he is also a vegetarian.
How would you address the following question if asked by a Loyalist student during the campaign.
Voting is important because it exercises your right as a student. By voting, you influence the future of the school, which influences the school as a whole. Without input from the voters, we could not reflect upon the votes to make choices, so please vote. It's your opinion and your right!
